How teachers' pay is worked out

Does anyone have a definitive, authoritative link or other source for the way in which teachers' pay is worked out?

I've heard here (and elsewhere) that it's worked out over a 39-week contract but just happens to be paid in 12 instalments, so the whole "long holidays" gripe is irrelevant as teachers are not actually paid for the holidays.

I've said this with authority before (!) but I'd like something I can cite... ?

Teachers are contracted (and paid )for 1265 hours of directed time usually over 39 weeks

The salary is an annual salary, like any other professional job.

If a teacher is on a one year contract at a school, they get paid the annual amount, even though they are only physically present in the school from September - July.

This is a civilised country and we do get paid for holidays.
