yesr 2 SATS - manipulation or help?

So DS1 is in year 2, doing some SATS, maths mainly due to issue with dyslexia, so not the english. However, he did some of his maths with the Head Master and according to DS he got them all right.

Now why did he do them with the head? DS said the head did 'not really' help him. Did he do them with the head because of his issue with reading words and it was better for him or is it because the head is worried DS will bring the school score down and make him and the school look bad?

Am I paranoid / over thinking this or am I on to something? Just don't like the idea of DS beisng kind of manipulation for greater gain if you get where I am coming from.

PS: don't give a toss about the SATS as I know exactly where DS is with his work as his teacher is excellent.

Our Y2s are doing SATs at present. We have some parent helpers and TA support in to help with the reading of the Maths papers for those who might need it.

So, I reckon, esp if your DS has dyslecia, the head was probably being a reader.

I know with the maths papers there is a restriction on what text can be read out to help the child with the questions. If the teacher was supervising the children who didn't need support maybe the head was the only other adult available?

All children are allowed to have the maths questions read to them if necessary (unless they are straight calculation questions).

Presumably they are just using the headteacher as an extra reader as they are aware of your ds's reading difficulties.

I agree with what Littlefish said, they just needed an extra body.

Our head often acts as a reader for SATs. No reason why a dyslexic child who is good at maths should be penalised for poor reading skills. They are assessing his maths not his English in a Maths test. Nothing out of the ordinary IMO.
