Secondary or primary? We were number 1 for secondary and got a place a week after the original letters. I don't want to sound annoyingly smug but I thought it was worth mentioning this because it does show how fast the list can move.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/04/2009 20:37

primary.

no thanks any experience welcome. not that it help us get a place in any way but will help me hoping or giving up hope.

Where are you on the list? Do you have a place at all - and what is that school like?

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 25/04/2009 21:28

No place yet. 8th on the list of CofE and very high on community, both very very close. those are the list before the acceptance form have been returned to the council.

I am following this thread with interest. I live in croydon and didn't get a school place for my four year old. The council said they will not give out any details of the waiting lists until July and they are now trying to make me go on waiting lists for schools I don't want. I put down 4 schools all within 1 mile of my house and wasn't allocated anything. They also say they have 300 unplaced children in the borough so it doesn't look good.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 26/04/2009 09:38

oh ninamag I share your pain and worry. They tried to make me choose a school they wanted but when I called they told me I can apply for a local one again, a different one.

let's see if other people can make us more positive.

My DD was 5th for a reception place and got a place at the Primary I wanted her to go to. Her Infants had a 3 class entry though. Unfortunately she wasn't as lucky when it came to the High School waiting list and ended up at our 2nd choice school.

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 27/04/2009 12:34

Our Council would never tell me where we were on the waiting list, only that there were 8 of us waiting. Since starting (we got a place mid-July) I've worked out we were 2nd on the list to start with, but then someone moved into area and came above us. Altogether four people got in who were not in the initial allocation. This was for a one-form (30 places) primary school. It was extremely stressful, but definitely worth persevering!

Good luck.

Izzy what a great name! and thanks for positives. I seem to be thinking about this all the time. and when I'm not some other mum will ask me. It's a long time till september...

Am 3rd in list for primary and think it extremely unlikely will get offered now.

jujumaman · 27/04/2009 16:25

Hmm, we are 11th on a list for a very close school, which historically everyone who has applied has got into. I've given up and enrolled dd1 in a private school

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 27/04/2009 16:36

jujumaman that is my plan b. and I feel as as you if I have to resort to that.

OP posts:
jujumaman · 27/04/2009 20:02

it's outrageous that we should have to resort to it, there should be enough school places to go round.

Good luck

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 27/04/2009 21:18

I know. We moved here because of the good and many state schools. How ironic.

Have just posted on another thread about faith schools.

My DD is in reception and has always been 1st on the waiting list for our catchment C of E school. However, they have 2 waiting lists. 1 for community places and 1 for church places. So if a child who has a community place leaves then the 1st person on the community list gets offered a place, and the same with a church place. (Hope that makes sense, have had a couple of glasses of wine).

I notice that one of the schools you are on the list for is C of E so it might be worth finding out if they have 2 lists, just so you know where you stand. FYI - my daughter has been on the 'community' waiting list since last sept. and no places have come up yet.

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/04/2009 10:21

thank you merlin that make sense, even after the wine . Yes I will def ask.

Ca I ask you all something. Can you be kept on a community school waiting list even after you've accepted another place or gone private? I know you can stay on a faith school forever but I'm confused re the community one.

  1. And another 5 children were offered places before the start of the autumn term.
Two-form entry, so 60 children in the year. Hang in there.
1dilemma · 28/04/2009 11:10

watching this with interest
we're 9th for a 2 form entry (and have moved up 1 place in 1 month) and less than 100th for both our other choices one a 3 form and 1 a 4 form

IzzyWizzyletsgetbusy · 28/04/2009 12:51

tbh I don't think moving up 1 place in 1 month is too bad at this time of year. Certainly in our case, someone got in in May, we got in in July and another child got a place the day before term started in September. At the minute most LEA's will still be chasing reply slips to the original offers (mine told me that despite the 2-week deadline, they give parents at least another month and two more reminder letters).

It is incredibly difficult. Our school in question is an over-subscribed RC primary. We're not RC so despite DS being at the school, we're unlikely to get DD in next year, certainly not straight away. I do feel your pain!

DamonBradleylovesPippi · 28/04/2009 15:14

izzi don't siblings have a place automatically regardless? just found out our RC - 3rd choice - refused our aplication because we did not have a priest letter. I knew we didn't stand a chance but thought you could apply even though you were not practicing. Oh well...
