Because i would like to take some - just for a laugh with no revision just to see if i could blag it. I am a teacher and have invigilated many GCSE's and have found the question papers really easy and would love to sit Geography or History or physics or something having done no revision to see if i could get an A or A* (I know i could get a C no prob - i mean...c'mon!)

I would like to try this too.

No maths anymore, short courses tend to be all exam, in my experience anyway. A short course may suit you as the standard is as high but you do less content.

More and more GCSEs I think are loosing coursework.

I'm doing maths atm and there is no coursework, but it is all squashed into one year and is quite intense. The grade comes from 2 exams only.

I don't think there is a coursework element to iGCSEs but I think they are reputed to be tougher exams than GCSEs

thanks guys - i would like to do a subject i didn't do first time round and i dropped all humanities except RE so was wondering really about History and Geography. I only did biology at school but would quite fancy doing a 100% exam physics paper. I don't really want to do maths again - from what i hear about GCSE Physics there isn't a great deal of maths in it nowadays (btw i am a music teacher).

Are there any 'wierd and wacky' ones that are 100% exam -would be up for giving them a go too

IGCSEs are GCSEs without coursework. Viewed as being harder than the current form of GSCEs and therefore what the better public schools have now chosen to do. They consider them to be more of a test for the more able pupil.

My husband teachers AQA History (Modern World) and his class have chosen to ditch the coursework and do an extra exam paper. I think there are three exams.

If you email OCR, they will give you a list of subjets with no coursework, which include Maths, Latin and Classical Studies and some of the more international languages, amongst others. Because they are rather a strange mix, we are looking at some iGCSEs for my daughter (who is home ed). We are currently studying for Biology and Geography with Cambridge international exams. Both are exam only.

I think they are harder than normal GCSEs, though, much more like the old O level in format.

I teach in a school that does IGCSE. My impression of the Bio paper that I invigilated recently was that I would have needed to have been taught to do a lot of it. Old GCSE ones were well within the range of an educated adult's general knowledge - which I think is what you are getting at here?

I'm a Spanish/French teacher, BTW, with GCSE Bio.
