Just wondering if it is possible to teach in the same school that my son attends?
If any out there does this, is it practical/complicated/awkward...etc?

thankyou

I was just about to answer this, when I realised it's a zombie thread - I already replied, in 2009!Grin

The OPs DS will presumably have moved on by now.

oh balls! MN used to have an alert for zombie threads.

The headteacher’s daughter attends the school our son is at.

It’s very common and can be fine and positive in lots of ways.

Yes parents can be embarrassing and some parent teachers can be overly involved and annoying to other staff.

You do have to be careful not to keep talking about your Dc with colleagues and save that for when you would approach them like any parent. You have to not get too involved in discipline/minor issues that you wouldn’t know about if not working there. You need to give your child space and be sensitive to how they feel and try to avoid being ‘teacher’ in front of them where poss.

There are lots of practical positives esp if it’s a good school. And having a handle on what’s going on is very useful I think. There are practical benefits for kids too - getting info, managing all the gear etc.

Some depends on individual child.

This is my personal perspective

I was homeschooled. We were part of a local homeschooling co op for many years. My mom used to teach ELA classes at a elementary school once a week. I was not required to attend.
My aunt is a high school math teacher in Ohio. Her eldest child goes there. It can theoretically work out quite well but my advice is to be prepared always. She was able to keep a eye on her first child and support her to do well.

At my daughter's school they have joint head teachers and both have daughters who attend the school - one of the priority admission criteria is for children of staff and the staff all choose to send their daughter's there (it is a highly sought after state school). My husband also works there and he is not allowed to teach our daughter (although he did by accident yesterday as he did a cover lesson for another teacher). Not sure who was most surprised ! We have had no issues - amazing my husband is loved by most of the girls so our daughter has no issues at all.

At DD’s Private Secondary there are loads of parents who teach there as they get a huge discount.
