Has anyone used www.goodschoolsguide.co.uk to check the catchment areas for schools?

We need a bigger house and want to move closer to a certain school, we can't find any maps. This site says it has all the details but wants £10 for the privilidge

Surely the Council should give us this info!

The school says if I tell them a postcode they can say yes or no, but that is it.

Our LEA website has a section on the site where you can type in your postcode and it tells you the catchments.

Some school websites has catchment details.

the GDG doesn't give catchment maps, but it does show you the postcodes where previous children have come from IYSWIM. It's done as spots on the map.

It might depend on where you are. In Surrey you can phone up the council and ask for copies of the APA (Admission Priority Area) for the previous year. This will give you some idea of where children got in from this time, but isn't a guarantee for next time, as it will vary.

The admissions booklet in our authority tells you the distance (as crow flies) you neede to be within to get in last year.
It may vary year to year if there are a lot of children of admission age within close proximity to the school.
