Linda Pound, How Children Learn (from Amazon for about £12) is a fantastic book. It gives you basic info on all the theorists. I have used this for my foundation degree in early years

I recommend 'Growing a reader from Birth' by Diane McGuinness. McGuinness is a cognitive scientist and this book is a thoroughly fascinating read covering the development of language from baby-to 5 years, and its relationship to later literacy. A 'must read' for all parents AND those involved with early child-care IMO.It may be out of print -but worth finding through Amazon marketplace.

'Why Love Matters' by Sue Gerhardt is a text book on my child psychotherapy course. It's about why love is essential to brain development in a child's early years. I got mine from Amazon.
