Is it a syllabus per subject and a curriculum overall?

Yes, I think that's it - the curriculum is overall what they study in the school, and a syllabus is the details of what they cover in one course/subject.

Isn't a syllabus what you follow for a specific exam.Every pupil does gcse maths but not every area is covered that would depend on the syllabus set by the exam board.

The curriculum is more general. It's what is taught but not necessarily for an exam.
