Need advice on nurseries and primary schools in Brighton...

We're moving to E Sussex, most likely Brighton, but we don't know which area of the city except that it'll be outside the centre.

I'd love to find a good Montessori nursery school for DS as we all love the one he's at right now. Can anyone recommend one? There appears to only be one in Brighton, which starts from age 3. Ours is not listed on the website for some reason so I'm hoping Brighton might have some hidden Montesorri nurseries, too!

If not Montessori, can anyone recommend a Brighton nursery and tell me why you like it?

Ditto for primary schools (not Montessori).

Having worked in the sector I can recommend some nurseries for you-how old is your DS?

There are a number of lovely schools depending on which area you move to; hopefully some people with school aged children will pop along to advise you further

I think there is only the one montessori nursery in Brighton, but have heard good things about it.

near where I am (Seven Dials), Blueberry nursery is always really recommended - there is a long waiting list though.

As for schools - most of the state schools are good. Whereabouts are you considering living?

[hello shiny - thanks for the email!]

Hello Pollyanna and thanks for your email too

Blueberry was going to be my Number 2 with the wonderful Tarnerland just slightly pipping it to the post! You will need to live in the catchment area for Tarnerland though as they are heavily oversubscribed each term. They accept children aged 6m+ I think.

Blueberry is great, very structured, brilliantly staffed and resourced and takes children aged 18m+ I believe.

ooh yes, we aren't in the catchment for Tarnerland, but have heard good things about it.

I have had ds2's name down for Blueberry since before he was born. I don't think he has got a place though . I think it is easier to get older children in there though.

have also heard good things about the montessori nursery on stanford avenue in Brighton. Have a friend who sends her 3 year old ds there and seems very happy.

Ohhh, thanks girls!

DS is 2. We haven't decided where we're going to live, in fact I think we should use childcare/ schools as our guide.

What are your areas of Brighton like to live in? We are not v well off, but would like a decent-ish sized 3 bed house with a garden (ideally bigger than a postage stamp-sized lawn!. We just want to rent to start off with, and would love somewhere near a park if possible.

In terms of an area we want to find a happy medium between chi-chi and rough!

Hmm..reads through shopping list for new home...maybe I'm being a little too demanding?!
