How much do you need to earn to send your dc to private school?

So I have always assumed that the dc would go to state school. Part of this is because I went to state school and "what was good enough for me....". But also I guess i assumed that we didn't really earn enough for this to be an option.
But recently I've spoken to people who I think earn less than we do that are seriously considering going private. Now obviously there are lots of other factors involved (mortgage payments etc) but I was wondering if people had a ballpark idea of when private starts to be an option. I have some job decisions to make in the near future and I can't quite get my head around whether I should even be thinking of this as an option.

Are you anything to do with JaneWhite? Just something familiar about one of those websites you're dangling, only one of which is well known of course.

Really not sure why the principals of the new site would persist in trailing it across here having been deleted several times.

Can you tell them to sort out their marketing strategy - at the moment its looking tacky and cheapskate.

And prominent in a bad way.

Touting.

That was the word I was looking for!

I think you need at least 60k pa to afford private school for 1 child.

It depends. My private school cost £9000 a year. There was me and my sister so my parents only needed to find an extra £346 a week on top of outgoings.

Of course another option is to move near an excellent state school and then (if necessary) pay out for private tuition - it is a lot cheaper than school fees Some state schools are far better than some of the minor indies and you will really need to do your research.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do, but as long as you are good parents to your children they will turn out well

winesgoodplease - that's very true. With one to one tuition, you pick the teacher you want, you pay for the subjects and topics that your child needs, you pay for as much or little as needed, and you time it strategically - eg if your child needs a pre exam boost, or is struggling in a particular aspect of one subject.

I have used the private system, and I think the biggest weakness is that you can fork out the fees and still get lumered with a mediocre teacher because you have no control over timetabling, when staff are going to come and go etc.
