Management Allowance:Anyone lost theirs?

I am a Special Needs Teacher with over 30 years experience and a Masters Degree, and a shortage qualification. In my January pay packet I was almost £200 down. When queried I was told that I was losing my Management Allowance worth £1900 a year and there was nothing that could be done about it as it was a change that was decided in 2005 by the goverment. It came as a horrible shock, especially as I am the breadwinner with two children including one severely disabled. My husband who is also disabled works 10 hours a week, cannot get DLA and is meanstested out for everything, including CA.We were better off when he was on Incapacity Benefit. Now the rant is over,it does feel like a kick in the teeth.Anyone else affected?

I know the same thing has happened in our school. I support a child with sen and use to get an allowance but haven't done for some time now

Yep, I lost mine two years ago - they were phased out then but yours might have been ringfenced for a while hence why you still got it. Your school should have a published TLR structure that shows who is getting TLRs now.

I'm still pretty sore about losing mine, especially as I still do about 90% of the things I did when I had it. We went from having a fair few management points in a department of 19, to having only 5 people on TLRs, including the HoD and 2ic.

Thank you memoo and badgermonkey for your replies.I am going to continue to do the job exactly how it was before only on 2 grand a year less pay! Were you given a warning letter before, only a warning letter would have least have prepared me.Am I right in thinking there is nothing that can be done?A colleague said that the Head could have organised something that would have meant I would still have it,this has troubled me.You are right about the ring fencing. You would think that the goverment would just not re-issue them, like the old EPA allowance.
But thank you again for replying and happy holidays if you are on them.

It was made very clear in 2005/2006 that those allowances were going, and that they would be honoured for another 3 years. Losing money is never nice, but it was well publicised - I find it very weird that you weren't told it would happen when your school went through its reorganisation (which it must have done by law) and people were allocated TLRs etc.

our head teacher transfered the allowances across to tlrs so nobody lost out.
If you are doing the same work as people with tlrs it may be work contacting the union
Check how the tlrs were organised - you can check the staff meeting minutes and consult your union rep to discuss the consultation proceess

Many thanks for the replies. It has been made clear to me that in fact others are doing the same work but without the management allowance. It`s as if I am cheeky to complain.
However these are much younger staff with nothing like my qualifications or experience.
I am nearly 20 years older than them.Any more comments on this situation would be appreciated.Thank you!
