Why have all the school in my town closed, even though the snow has melted?

They all closed at lunch time.

The snow is now slush or disapeared all together.

Do they know something about the weather that I dont'?

weather reports are predicting lots more snow in some parts of England, maybe that's why - wanted to get them home before it got really bad?

SlightlyMadScotland · 06/02/2009 14:33

Dunno...more is forecast here as well as som very low temperatures - which would cause the slush to freeze solid.

They just want everyone to get home safely

At various times this week, dh, ds and my school have closed but never concurrently until yesterday. Tbh it's been easier on foot than by car and that's the problem, getting the staff in.

Had to walk out in a blizzard & snow that topped the wellies to retrieve ds at lunchtime today, as the headteacher conceded that opening the school this morning was probably a bit "optimistic"

Bucks CC wanted all schools to make an early decision yesterday because of the severe weather warning so we were told by 5pm. Dss have only been in once this week...

Ours largely depends on the buses TBH. If they stop running, or suggest they might, we shut.

LynetteScavo · 06/02/2009 14:39

I wish they had just been closed all day; it was snowing this morning when they opened.

DH is in town and it's perfectly clear, so he has just had a rant at me about staff wanting a long weekend.

Yeah, right Lynette! That's how it works in schools.

LynetteScavo · 06/02/2009 17:03

Exactly Clam. I eventually manage to convince DH that there wasn't a teachers pre-planned ski trip organised, so he threated to write to the LEA instead, but of course he won't.

It just seems to be a bit of an over reaction that because the high schools closed all others followed.

The head of DS1's school seemed happy to keep the children sining in the hall singing to his guitar, but several of the staff had gone to collect their own children; there just seemed to be a massive knock on effect.
Oficially they were closing at 1pm, as anounced on the radio, but they hadn't phoned the parents to let them know, like DD's nursery, and DS2's school did.(And funnily enough I don't listen to the radio at work)

The whole thing just seems really bizare.

They are all panicking because they are Englanders and know nothing about snowy weather.

jeanjeannie · 06/02/2009 17:20

We're in Bucks and all schools were closed but not DD1's nursery which is attached to a school but run independently. Had no probs getting her there at all!
