deferring enry to school scotland and nursery funding

I definitely want to defer entry to P1 for my dec born DD. Prob is i was told by school today that it is unlikely she will get funding for another year at nursery. Although i have choice to leave entry to p1 it seems i will be forced to put her in. I deliberately didn't take up her 3 yr old place as I believed she was entitled to 2 years but not so...
Any words of wisdom of how to fight?

Can't really help, but just to let you know that I have heard this from other mums. Aberdeenshire seems to be quite strict about it - where are you? If it's being imposed elsewhere, I would question if it's coming from the government. Maybe follow up through an MSP?

I thought all children were entitled to two funded years in nursery. My dd was born in January and I was offered another funded year in nursery...however I declined as I thought she was mature enough to start p1 even though she was the youngest in the year, she was still only 4. I might add that the school were against our decision to put her into P1.....

Highland. Jan and feb kids seem ok . Oct nov dec are a problem. I am an infant teacher myself with a lot of experience and know my daughter will only benefit from deferring

Unfortunately if you check out the wording on ParentZone it's worded that they are entitled to a free place at certain ages, not that they're entitled to 2 years. And it's up to individual authorities to decide whether to give free places for children who defer (apart from Jan & Feb birthdays).

Unless you can show that your authority have not followed their own published policies, then I don't think you'll be able to appeal against it.

At our nursery (in Borders) it depended on the number of children applying for pre-school places, and also on the support of the nursery teacher - this is most important I think? Our teacher fully behind parents, as had dd of own with late birthday, and I think all children who deferred last year got another year of pre-school - regardless of how many years already had.
Also I recall a friend getting health visitor involved by writing a letter of support (things like needing a sleep in the afternoon) - showing immaturity I imagine. Her dd birthday November but she just wasn't ready. Good luck
