If an independent school closes due to snow do they refund a days fees?

Just wondering how likely it is that the dc's school will be open tomorrow?

When they closed for a teacher's strike a couple of years ago they offered to either provide free childcare or a refund of a days fees.

lisalisa - I'm a London teacher and absolutely wouldn't consider driving to work - drivers that have no experience in really snowy conditions - not worth the risk. I grew up in Canada so have no problem in driving in the snow, but here it's just not worth it. Give the school staff a break.

lisa, do all of the teachers reaLLY live within 2 miles of the school?

To op, not a snowball's chance in hell.

ramon -no problem - I don't really mind if dcs are at home and wish no ill will on their teachers! And pointydog - yes they do!it's a community school and we know all the teachers many of them socially too!!!

School is open. Dh has taken the kids in. Driving is difficult but not too dangerous, wouldn't risk it otherwise.

Dd's class teacher last year lives within walking distance but I would imagine most teacher's don't.

I'm self employed so if I don;t work I don;t get paid and we run a children's activity. If we cancel, we have to refund so am keeping fingers well and truly crossed.

lisalisa

teachers have no say in whether the school closes or not.

I drove in yesterday and today.

yesterday I was told to go home as the head closed the school after I got there.

This morning the school was due to open but the teachers that lived outside the catchment where still arriving at 10.

In many cases its not about not wanting to work its a case of not being able to get in in time,

OrmIrian · 03/02/2009 12:13

They still have to pay staff. No. I wouldn't expect so.

Am absolutely amazed that teachers at an independent school were involved in a strike - I have never heard of that before.
refunding fees for snow closure? No.

islandofsodor · 03/02/2009 12:35

It did make the national news (well the TES) at the time as it was the first time in x amount of years it had happened.
Basically the outgoing head sacked the Head of English on his last day in the job. Governors upheld decision etc etc.

New head arrived a term later and one of the very first things he did was re-instate the teacher.

Nice idea!

I am not expecting a refund, though...

We can but hope ... doubtful though. We had an enforced day off earlier this term due to a power failure too.
