Is my dog "gifted"?

Keane · 29/03/2005 16:08

yesterday we went a walk and she opened the stairgate, unlocked the back door, jumped over the garden wall and met up with us on our walk.

Surely this is not "normal" dog behaviour?

we had a doggy bonfire this year, turned into a bit of an orgy if I'm honest. Her father and I try to give her as much space as possible, but the neighbours weren't very pleased. Well i was quite embarassed if I am honest, but she enjoyed herself and her performance had improved

Hmmm... so maybe a little of what you fancy *DOES do you good?

coppertop · 29/03/2005 17:13

Did anyone at the party have a camera? If so you should be aware that purveyors of filth may try to post the pictures on the internet. MuckyPups is a particularly seedy site - or so I've heard.

flamesparrow · 29/03/2005 17:15

the lengths they go to....

hunkermunker · 29/03/2005 17:17

Bizzypups and Eurodogs are the more reputable ones, apparently.

Keane · 29/03/2005 17:19

OMFG, I never thought. Hooch and St Bernard did have cameras.......

so they are making money out of her too

i have started to think she would be better off at a residential site now, tbh. i feel like such a bad Mother. I should have realised her potential before

OP posts:
Keane · 29/03/2005 17:21

i fell so naive, how could I have let her down like this?

Pmsl you bloody nutters

hunkermunker · 29/03/2005 17:51

Keane, don't beat yourself up - you only did what any mother would. You weren't to know - just thank goodness for the collective wisdom of MN (And yes, I do include myself in that - I'm SO wise I ache some days).

Gomez · 29/03/2005 18:27

Oh my word you funny naughty ladies!

coppertop · 29/03/2005 18:39

Going for the residential option is a tough choice to make but she may well enjoy being a boarder. Far more extra-curricular opportunities to be had - although I suspect you might want to curtail her extra-curricular activities for now.

hunkermunker · 29/03/2005 18:41

A curfew might be a good idea. Probably don't want to go down the route of grounding her in a harsh manner - after all, give a dog a bad name and all that.

flamesparrow · 29/03/2005 19:23

With the residential school option - isn't it true that some of them come home in the holidays and just go right off the rails?

At the moment its just a few indiscretions at a bonfire, but next thing you know she could be snapped between a westie and a yorkie in a VERY uncomfortable place.... (and no, I don't mean the back of a vaulkswagon!!!)

Keane · 30/03/2005 14:19

omg, i hadnt thought of that. Her behaviour is getting a bit out of control. She made herself dinner last night, I imagine the attention seeking is part of the frustration she feels from not being understood.

i phoned a few residential sites up this morning and they are sending me their propectus's but obv even if we view it will entail an entrance exam.

was wiondering if any teachers had a view on this?

having read this thread not at all thoroughly I can only say one thing.....

Clearly Keane you are not responsible enough a mother to this precious canine. You need to spend a little less time worrying about yourself and far more time considering the holistic needs of your pet. Clearly said canine would benefit from homeopathic remedies, reiki massage, the music of Bach, a good night in front of the video - Cats and Dogs and many other pampering goodies. I do hope that you choose your residential programme carefully.

flamesparrow · 30/03/2005 17:33

How is she getting on today Keane? Have you found any pictures online that shouldn't be there?

Keane · 30/03/2005 17:41

well only one on smackmybitch.dog

was quite vulgar really

but I think it was a one off. Could have done without the soundtrack though

Poor led-astray puppy. I do hope that you find the right solution for her. Canine Anonymous might be able to help you understand her behaviour more. Or caninal dogsteopathy?

miggy · 30/03/2005 18:18

just think carefully before agreeing to acceleration if the school suggests it. Can lead to all kinds of social problems (although tbh she does sound fairly advanced socially).
Also are you sure she is gifted or is she talented or gifted and talented? Very important to get right diagnosis before embarking on enrichement programmes.

coppertop · 30/03/2005 18:24

MTMML

Poor Keane has turned to this site in her hour of need. She needs support, not criticism. I suggest you take yourself off to the Talk page and have a good read of the mumsnet philosophy, young lady. Tsk tsk!

Keane - Just remember to give your dog reassurance that you will still love her even if she doesn't manage to pass the entrance exams. There is no shame in not going residential. Just because Trixabelle and Peachy down the road attend an exclusive establishment it doesn't make your darling any less of a bitch.
