I'd love to be a fly on the wall at nursery !!!

My daughter is nearly 4 and attends a nursery linked to a private school, she does ballet, jazz, music, tennis and baby gym. All these things are done while they are at nursery and they're time tabled in to their day and they are charged seperatly. I don't mind, but I never get to see any of it as it happens at school. I'd love to watch her do ballet and attempt to play tennis. We are told how much she enjoys certain activities but I'd love to see it for myself.
There's no point me taking her to another ballet class out side of nursery because she already does it, and I'd have to pay double. Does anyone else feel the same way?
I'm not moaning as it's such a lovely school, I'd just like to see what goes on.

don't they let you drop in?

mummyloveslucy · 30/12/2008 21:26

No, they close the gates for security. You are envited to discuss your child at any time but not to watch lessons.

What a shame. My dds have done ballet from a very young age ( not at school)and we get to watch at the end of every term.

I wouldn't expect them to let parents drop in because of the distraction. Friends of mine say that it is usual to be excluded from ballet. My ds does a music class after school at school and I have no clue what he actually does (he is 4 and isn't telling!). He also has piano lessons at school but we have a book that the teacher fills in about what he has done in the lesson and what he has for homework. Her comments were also included in his end of term report. Personally I'm delighted he can do these things at school as it frees up time at weekends. Not so bothered about actually seeing him do things but if I were then I'd choose an activity and do that with my dc at the weekend.

My dd did dancing at her nursery last year. We couldn't watch the lessons, but they did a little "presentation" at the end of the year. Would it be worth you asking the school for something like this?

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 30/12/2008 21:56

My dd goes to dancing three/four times a week. I see her dance once a year as they don't allow parents in the class because its oo distracting for the children and upsetting for the one's who dont have a parent watching.

Am very surprised that the school doesn't arrange miniconcerts and shows. Not at all surprised that you can't drop in on lessons. The nursery at the dcs school has a concert or show each term. Tennis and babygym I'm not sure are that different to any srt of PE that they would be doing.

They do put on little shows, at christmas and other times. I'd like to see her in the lessons too. They have a lovely ballet uniform and they must look so sweet all together.

Ask if you can have a DVD or something done. My cousin (much much younger!) is at a private pre-prep and my uncle and aunt got sent a DVD of him, which we were forced to watch over Christmas. They did look very sweet though - we saw them in class, in dance, in music class, playing around outside, etc.

Even if she did them outside of school, parents don't normally sit in though. We all used to gossip in the ante-room, or, even better, drop and run.

i was daydreaming about bugging ds to see what happens to him at nursery. but then realised it would probably consist of about three hours of singing jingle bells to himself.

My dd started ballet at nursery. When she moved into reception class I was able to watch one session as she was preparing for an exam. At nursery it was all very low key. I happen to know quite a few ballet teachers who teach that syllabus(most are affiliated with a particular dance organisation) and they filled me in on what she would be doing.

She now does ballet at a ballet school and so far in 18 months I have not been able to watch a single session. I will be able to do so next year just before her next exam..
