Hi
any recommendations for a recorder book for a complete beginner with teaching notes... thanks

I love the "School Recorder Book" by Edmund Priestly and F.Fowler available on Amazon. It is very very very old fashioned, but it taught me how to play and I have no musical talent. If you prefer something more modern try the First Book of the Recorder (Usborne First Music).

The Brian Davey ones are suppose to be good; but I personally would avoid using them as he's a convicted paedophile.

My DS learnt from the "Red hot recorder" by Sarah Watts - he enjoyed it (and is just about to take his grade 2 recorder exam - so has done quite well)

Sing, Clap and Play the Recorder did ds all right. It's quite good for young learners - very clear.

will second Red Hot Recorder which comes with a CD of accompanying backing music so that the sound of "beginner recorder" doesn't drive you demented

My 5 yr old DS is getting on well with Recorder Playing in Colour. Initially the notes are colour coded, its written with the National Curriculum in mind.

It really depends on how old the learner is?

the learners are 7 - I can play but found the school book went too fast (so lots of complicated tunes without consolidating the basics).

I recommend Recorders from the Beginning by John Pitts. It is very clear and simple to follow and can usually be found on ebay at very low cost.
The old version is virtually the same as the new one, so you can save money on that as well

My little boy is funnily enough just lying beside me reading his prized possession - the second book (just come through today) of Recorders from the Beginning - he is very proud to have finished the first.

He loves playing with the CD that comes along with it too!

"Recorder from the beginning" is quite a good series but "red hot recorder" is more lively and the backing track cd good too. It's the one I use at school. (Am music teacher)

looks like red hot recorder for Christmas with backing track and then leave DD in another part of the house to work through it thanks all.

Oh I had the School Recorder Book when I was a girl - was very good

I bought Recorder from the beginning for dd as I knew it was the one the school would use but I have heard good things about Red Hot Recorder.

We didn't buy the backing tracks as dh and I both play piano, we bought the teacher accompaniment book instead.

I remember lerning from the School Recorder book years ago, those were the days.
