How many DCs in your school year, how many COULD there be and which LEA are you in?

I'm interested in knowing if there is a correlation here!

For the record:

DS1 is in Y5, 40 DCs out of a possible 60. Hants LEA

DS2 is in Y3, 50 DCs out of a possible 60.

My son's school is 4 form entry and oversubscibed at present. Sefton LEA.

Littlefish · 05/11/2008 20:10

At the school where I teach (Worcestershire) our Admission number in each year is 30.

I think there are the following

Nursery: 30
Reception: 30
Yr 1: 29
Yr 2: 25
Yr 3: 18
Yr 4: 22
Yr 5: 19
Yr 6: 20 (ish)

As you might be able to summise, there used to be a problem with behaviour at the school. A new Headteacher was brought in 4 years ago and the numbers started to rise.

mankyscotslass · 05/11/2008 20:12

2 class intake, 30 each class. Always full, over subscribed. Tameside LEA.

SoupDragon · 05/11/2008 20:14

There won't be any kind of real correlation as the numbers depend on how good the school is, how many other schools there are in the area and how dense the population (not how stupid they are, how many )

nickerless · 05/11/2008 20:19

Ds yr 5; has 8 in his school year out of possible 30

Littlefish · 05/11/2008 20:21

My point exactly Soupy. My school was pretty dire (actually, very dire!), but is now turning around very nicely.

I keep looking at my previous post. Have I spelt "summise" correctly, or is it "surmise", no, that's not right either!

AAAAAAAARGH, I'm going to have to go and look it up!

Dd's school is oversubscribed by her presence at least: we appealed and they squeezed her in though they were already full. There were 45 appeals to get into this school alone- not to mention all the people who put it first but didn't appeal.

CharleeInChains · 06/11/2008 10:41

Haha when i was at primary school we had 5 children including me in my year!

Shows how things have changed as that same school is now extremley over subscribed!

cece · 06/11/2008 10:45

DS has 89 in his year group out of a possible 90.

DD is in the juniors so their classes are 32, so 94 children out of a possible 96 (2 children moved from the area since Sept.)

Surrey LEA

There are 120 in every year[4 classes] and every place is taken with reception this year having applications of 186 for the 120 places.
LEA is Knowsley

Niecie · 06/11/2008 10:51

Also Hampshire

Infants and Juniors both have up to 90 in each year - 3 classes

Usually 28 or 29 to a class, sometimes 30.

Marne · 06/11/2008 10:59

Dd1 is in a class of 14, 12 are reception, 2 kept back from last year.

There are only 4 classes in dd's school with a max of 20 per class.

Madsometimes · 06/11/2008 11:07

Greenwich LEA
Y1 30 (Teacher + 1 ft TA and 1 pt TA)
Y4 30 (Teacher + 2 ft TA's one of which is designated for a statemented child)
Don't know about the rest. May be one or two less in years 5 or 6, but basically fully subscribed. I have never known a class to go above 30 in KS2.

My friend sends her dd privately and is quite shocked that her reception class has 25 with one teacher and a part time TA. Her private school seems very good though, so I do not think that is a problem.

OrmIrian · 06/11/2008 11:09

60 over two classes. It's oversubscribed.

Somerset.

chocolateshoes · 06/11/2008 12:32

local school there will be 2 of possible 6 but want DS to go to different one where there'll be 14 out 14!

Tommy · 06/11/2008 12:34

Southampton LEA - 90 children in each year

AMamaForObama · 06/11/2008 12:35

chocolateshoes · 06/11/2008 14:50

ooops meant to say am in Lancashire

TigerFeet · 06/11/2008 14:55

The school we wanted : 40 (oversubscribed, didn't get in)
The school we got : 90, full

Lincolnshire

AMamaForObama where are you? [nosey] I am S Lincs too

Bramshott · 06/11/2008 15:01

DD1 is in Yr 1, 13 DCs out of a possible 17 (that's per year, not per class, she's in a mixed Yr 1 / Yr 2 class) Hampshire LEA

Bramshott · 06/11/2008 15:02

Mind you, they started with 17, but 4 left at the end of YR (mostly to go private). Makes me feel a bit for those who may have been turned down for a place at the start of the year over people who were only going to use it for a year, even though of course it's their perfect right to do so.

roisin · 06/11/2008 18:26

We're in Cumbria and at a school with 60 places per year. There are 59 or 60 children in every year group as it is oversubscribed and free spaces are usually filled very quickly.
