and really really pleased......He dosen't actually like learning.....and goes to school to socialise and play football mainly. I could see he was nervous about the tests and told him to relax and do what he can..and not to fret about it, as long as he tries that is the main thing.

I can't wait til he gets home to tell him how proud i am!

Are these the old verbal/non verbal reasoning type things?

janeite · 24/10/2008 18:26

Great.

CATs can be used to create a kind of learning profile of children, showing where their strengths are and what kind of learner they are. They also place children into centiles to show how they are doing compared to all other children of the same age.

idobelieveinghosts · 24/10/2008 18:27

yes and 'quantitative'...do they not have them on the mainland then??? i thought our schools were the same as yours!

Oh glad someone knows of them...beginning to get worried then!

What does the quantitative sie of it mean then?..thats where he scored less.

I hope we don't have them here. SAT's are bad enought!

Congrats to your ds though.

idobelieveinghosts · 24/10/2008 18:46

Well they have them done here every year but i think its done more for the teachers to see results...we were allowed to see my other ds's results if we asked last year, but otherwise we don't usually see them.

But the DS mentioned today is in year 9 and i got a letter through the post about it.

I thought it was the norm everywhere, never mind, he has done well all the same, he is very chuffed!

My DS has done these this week, he is Y7, how are the tests marked/graded? New to all this.
Well done to your DS!

dustystar · 24/10/2008 18:56

This site explains the differences between verbal, quantitative and non-verbal reasoning.

dustystar · 24/10/2008 18:57

Well done to your ds

I think secondary most schools do CATs but a lot of schools never give out the results. My DS did them in Yr 6 when he spent a morning at his new secondary school before he started. Other schools in our area did them in Year 7. His school used them along with SATs for setting and also target setting.
We were never told DS's CATs.
Well done to your DS
