I am a bit tipsy so feel no shame in announcing that today I have been graded an outstanding teacher

You can all start congratulating me now.

I did quite systematically go through the criteria and ensure they were included.

Congratulations!

Congratulations.

You teachers work blardy hard.

Do you teach primary or secondary?

I would rather boil my head than teach,so take my hat off to you.

(A parent was a secondary head in a very tough inner city school, and I realised early on I could never in a million years do their job.)

scaryteacher · 16/10/2008 19:46

Well done you - RE teachers rock!

twinsetandpalls · 16/10/2008 19:49

Well done!!! I too have had a good, a satisfactory and an outstanding in successive OFSTEDS down to the class i am teaching and bugger all to do with my teaching abilities - its all a blinking farce really! Well done tho!!!!

Hulababy · 16/10/2008 19:56

Ah, that is fab. Well done!

twinsetandpalls · 16/10/2008 19:57

I do think that todays lesson was a better lesson tbh than my previous inspections but part of the reason was that I have complete control of this class so can push the boundaries with them.

Twinset I used to adore my RE teacher, she was a really inspirational woman to me. Good on you

FangolinaJolly · 16/10/2008 20:00

It's lovely if you enjoy your job isn't it.?

The head at ds school was due to retire last year but stayed on,you can just tell he adores his job,it was part of what sold the school to me,it has a really happy caring feel.

My parent was a workaholic,we never saw them. They loved the job but boy did it involve a lot of work and responsibility.
By retirement age they were pretty jaded,I think a lot of it was that they felt like a "Glorified accountant",also the ever changing missives from the D of E,and wrangles with the LEA.Also the expectations to make a silk purse out of a sows ear, when the feeder estate to the school had 60% unemployment and the local police practically lived in the schoolLots of knifecrime and the occasinal shooting/murder eek!

Good on you for your Ofsted.Enjoy the wine, you deserve it

twinsetandpalls · 16/10/2008 20:01

What a lovely thing to say the madhouse. I was chuffed actually when it said on the observation that I have a great relationship with the children and they clearly want to impress me.

well done twinset!
You survived the dreaded ofsted, for what its worth I think my dds teacher deserves an outstanding ofsted too, shes fab

janeite · 16/10/2008 20:02

I got an outstanding once when my normally gorgeous group went all weird, including laughing behind the observer's back at his bald head! Apparently because I dealt with the silliness and ensured that all of them had made progress by the end of the lesson, it was fine.

I got another outstanding when "the naughtiest boy in the school" told the inspector that he only read in English because he liked me and he'd never, ever picked a book up outside of lessons!

All the research into what makes outstanding lessons says that it's pushing the boundaries and breaking the rules that makes for outstanding lessons and teachers: funny that, when Ofsted try so hard to push us all into their shaped boxes!

ScummyMummy · 16/10/2008 20:02

Well done. You talentedskins, you.

Hassled · 16/10/2008 20:03

Congratulations - that's fantastic

twinsetandpalls · 16/10/2008 20:04

My previous school was like that Fango and although I loved it I allowed it to take over my life and I think it was a huge factor in a breakdown last year as I was so tired.

It is lovely that I have found a school that still challenges me but without the stress. I love my job so much. Someone in my tutor group said to me we have never seen you not smiling.

twinsetandpalls · 16/10/2008 20:06

It was an internal observatio but using OFSTED criteria. I did push boundaries and was a little nervous as there was the possibility the lesson just would not work. But I think that is what makes a good lesson, allowing them to go to their limit.
