Children being weighed in school

Am I correct in beleiving that Yr7s get weighed now? In which case, according to the Independent, I should have been told the results whether I wanted to know or not. Is that correct?

Anyone know?

I don't know about year 7's but I posted a thread about this last year when my year 6 dd got weighed at school, even though I never returned the permission slip. She said that one of the lads in her class (an overweight boy) was crying.

My DD was weighed in yr6 too. I was asked my permission though. DD is inclined towards the hefty side so the school nurse and I have been keeping an eye on her weight anyway so DD wasn't too bothered. The nurse doing it made a complete hash of it anyway. According to the letter dd bought home she had lost 4kg and shrunk in height too. DD was quite disappointed to learn that she had not lost 4kg!! When school nurse weighed her she had stayed the same which is what we are aiming for and she had grown not shrunk.

you'd think they could do it with discretion wouldnt you? - poor kid.

tbh, the ds's get weighed at clinic 6 monthly anyhow as part of paed monitoring and I have no clue if ds3 is under or over weight or what. he's healhy though which is what counts (I think he's under but he looks ok to me)

bas's weight can vary by 2 kilo in a day depending on who does it- useful then!

OK. Thanks. Maybe it was yr6 when he was weighed. I couldn't remember. But apparently all parents will be notified of the results whether they ask for them or not.

They are supposed to be discrete - ie no-one other than the nurse should see the results. But I guess for the very large children it's still humiliating
