SAM-Learning Does your school have this?

ds1's school is signed up for SAM Learning
He seems to like it and there's lots of material on there for revision and practice.

What do you think of it?

DS1 has it at school and said it is great.

He also likes it and said it is good for improving grades.

The last school I taught at had it, and even the most reluctant of Year 11s said it was OK (which is praise indeed in a warped sort of way!).

I think it is great-especially for boys who are often not too organised. They can do as little or as much as they want but the school can see how much time they have put in. My DSs used it.

christywhisty · 09/10/2008 08:11

DS had it at primary in year 6 and was given the password to use at home. He used to go into school early (they were not forced to) to use it. He loved it
It seem to be only revision he did on his KS2 SATS and he did really well in his science.

He has access to it now at secondary but doesnb't seem to use it much.

AbbeyA · 09/10/2008 08:12

He will probably use it in yr 11 christywhisty-that is when my DSs used it.

DD1 is in yr 6 and she will be doing this after half term. All the kids in her class seem really excited to be doing it and previous school years seem to of really benefited from it.

Our county has paid for SAM learning in every school. There is no doult that it moviates children.

Its a pity that there is nothing for SEN kids though. An MLD secondary school is only allowed to access secondary parts of the site. I think this is really pants when the kids are a similar academic level to a six year old.

Blandmum · 10/10/2008 20:30

We have used SAM learning for our GCSE classes, and it can be good for the kids in the D,C,B grade bracket.

not so hot for the kids at either end of the spectrum IMHO

Having DSs with B and C grades, I would say that is a spot on comment!

roisin · 11/10/2008 17:57

Oh, I don't know MB. ds1 is having a whale of a time on it: largely doing sections which are not aimed at his age-group/key stage!

Those who get B and C grades wouldn't dream of doing it if they didn't need to!

MrsWeasley · 11/10/2008 22:48

my DCs senior school uses it. DD says its "ok" which is better than a grunt and DS said its good but he rarely uses it.

mumeeee · 11/10/2008 23:26

DD3:s school had it and she found it very useful in year 10 and 11.
