Does your state primary have 'teams' or 'houses'? And do they eat at lunchtime in their 'teams'?

as dd1/dd2's primary (new head) has just introduced Teams throughout the school (red, blue, green, yellow) and now they are expected to eat in their teams. Dd1 is very unhappy about this as her yr 4 group of girls is tiny anyway and there isn't another yr 4 girl in her 'team' - so she is having to sit with other children every lunchtime and not her peer group. She doesn't mind the other children, they just arent her friends IYSWIM.

I think I may go and speak to the head but wanted to know if this is the norm.

It is a small school (100 pupils) so I dont think teams are necessary personally but there you go.

dd1 has said that if it goes on she would like to come home for lunch

No. Sounds ghastly. Poor dd, Enid.

Yes to houses - points for good behaviour effort etc all go to the house cup competition.
Inter house sports.
House assemblies once a week.
No to lunch - kids chose who they want to eat with.

DD's school mixes the age groups up a bit for lunch - older children helping younger children. But they still seem to manage to sit with their friends.

Eniddo · 07/10/2008 09:45

I spoke to the head yesterday about eating in teams and being given team points for manners etc

she said it was to encourage good behaviour as there had been some crappy behaviour from some disruptive kids and the lunchtime supervisors had had enough

I registered my displeasure and said that it was a shame that lunchtimes had now become stressful and slightly competitive. She said 'oh your dd1 didnt tell me she was upset by it' - yeah right like she would tell the head

I think not cod

I feel a bit sorry for her tbh as the old head was such a strong character - and she wears A LOT of per una

I heard about the bitches comment from another mum so I can't really go to the governors although I would like a shot if my child had heard it directly.

dd3? dd3????????

check my thread on lets discuss 2.6 year olds

she is mad. utterly mad and unlike the others.

rosealbie · 07/10/2008 09:58

Our school has 400+ children in 4 house teams. They collect house points each week and then at the end of each half term, the overall winning house has a treat, i.e., dance mats.

I believe it is good to mix year groups but as ours is a big school there are 2 classes in each year group and so each class are all reception, Y1 etc.

However, they sit in their classes for lunch regardless of which house or whether they have packed lunch or school meals.

me this morning to dd3 as she capered around on sofa with no pants on

'dd3, don't do a wee on the sofa'
her: 'I mi-ight...I mi-ight' said in infuriatingly cheeky manner
