Any recommendations or tips on which keyboard to get for DD's practice?

DD has just started piano lessons at school. She says she is learning on a piano, but they also have keyboards at school.

We now have to get her something to practice on at home - as we don't have the space for a piano, we are looking at getting a keyboard.

try to get one with weighted keys, then it will 'feel' more like a piano.

Is weighted the same as touch sensitive?

I wasn't sure bigTilly , but ds (pianist in our family) says not. His keyboard (a yamaha psr295) has slightly touch sensitive keys (if you hit the keys harder you get a slightly louder sound), but he says it doesn't feel like a real piano because the keys go down really easily. Weighted keys will be heavier to press and give bigger variation in sound the harder you press them.

For your info, he says the school has Yamaha keyboards (psr180 & 195s) that are like his but with fewer features. We also have a piano by the way.

It's also worth getting one with at least 5 octaves, which would be enough to keep a beginner pianist going for a while.
