It's too late for me - I've already been sucked into the vortex - but otherwise read this and be afraid.

Bloody hell! Just started pre-school I have been warned.

DarrellRivers · 10/09/2008 17:45

What a strange tale

BoysAreLikeDogs · 10/09/2008 17:46

OMG

How utterly bizarre and wierd

And costly

SorenLorensen · 10/09/2008 17:46

Lol at the idea of a splinter group PTA PTA people can be quite, quite mad though (and, yes, I've been sucked into the vortex too so I speak with the voice of experience).

MingMingtheWonderPet · 10/09/2008 17:47

I always thought it was the children that were supposed to act, well, like children !

SoupDragon · 10/09/2008 17:48

The Mail had a fuller story (I read it in a tyre shopo waiting room, honest!) Apparently the Widey Court Parents' and Children's Safety Group had only 2 members, Jayde Gerry and partner Timothy Chignell who set it up.

SoupDragon · 10/09/2008 17:49

IIRS, they set the splinter group up after they were told they would need to be CRB checked in order to sit in and observe lessons in order to check the standard.

ComeOVeneer · 10/09/2008 17:50

LOL. I am chair of our PTA and quite normal I assure you

Hassled · 10/09/2008 17:50

I did feel the Guardian must have been missing some pertinent information . Agree that many PTA people (clearly not me though, oh no) are barking.

OP posts:
Hassled · 10/09/2008 17:52

What I obviously meant was many PTA people, except those who MN, are often barking.

StellaDallas · 10/09/2008 17:52

Since when has a PTA been allowed to observe lessons to check the standard? They must be mad. CRB checked or not, no school would allow that.
Still, never a dull moment in the playground, I expect!

SoupDragon · 10/09/2008 17:53

Here is the DM's rather more sensationalist story

As chair of Vice of our PTA I had a quiet chuckle.

TheFallenMadonna · 10/09/2008 17:53

LOL at the idea that there would be enough people to form two PTAs at dc's school!

SoupDragon · 10/09/2008 17:55

The paper version of the story claimed the 2 parents were the only people in the splinter PTA.

muggglewump · 10/09/2008 17:57

I haven't read the link but I wouldn't join the PTA.
I was tempted when DD started school as I was a SAHM but I was worried I wouldn't be welcome as a lone parent on benefits.
Anyway, I'd complained a few times about the parking at school when DD was in the pre-school and did again during P1 a bit more vocally (I said it was disgusting that the parents parked there and wouldn't walk the extra 100 metres if they parked in the car park)
Unbeknown to me at the time I said it in front of the head of the PTA who parks her 4x4 there every day.
Two years on, she still looks at me like I'm shit. Two years on I still judge her as a lazy arse that cares more about herself than she does about parking safely!

poppy34 · 10/09/2008 18:03

the DM comments are magic...

ComeOVeneer · 10/09/2008 18:48

Soupy you are chair of vice? Your PTA sounds a darn sight more racey than ours

SoupDragon · 10/09/2008 18:51

Oh yes. We held a games night last term for which the poster I made read "children's games and races & adult games." I was made to reword it"

andiem · 10/09/2008 18:52

we don't have a chair of vice either soupy what happens at your meetings?

SoupDragon · 10/09/2008 18:53

Oh OK, I'm actually Vice Chair but it sounds so dull.

Gobbledigook · 10/09/2008 18:53

I am Vice Chair and perfectly normal and rational....most of the time
