Does anyone know anything about this school please? Thinking of it for dd1 in reception but it'd have to be pretty damn outstanding to make it worth the cost. Also I keep hearing it has a very bling reputation and is full of the children of Russian oligarchs. But then I only hear that from perfectly nice normal people have never met a real-life blingster Harrodian parent (but then don't move in those circles!) Any info much appreciated. Thank you

I know its 2012! so probably nobody will read my comment. I just want to say Bravo Caroline! I totally agree with what you have written.

I have been around the school and was very impressed by Head and pupils. I will be registering my DS for 2013 entry (11+). I have also spoken to a couple of families who have children there and they are very happy with it.

I read your comment, veyrierdulac. I suspect that the Harrodian (although I love the sound of it for DS, who is possibly going to struggle a bit at some of the other London independents that seem to want to push their message of producing alpha high achievers rather than rounded happy kids) may be out - TGSG suggests that there are very few parents who struggle to meet the fees, and the extras, I think, were described as "lavish", which is a real red flag for us. But I wish you huge luck with your DS, and hope it works out for you. I met a couple of really lovely kids who go there the other day. Engaging, but not disconcertingly grown-up, and not arrogant. Just lucky enough to have a bit more money than us! ;-)

The best advice for anyone considering any senior school is to attend an open day. It's a good chance to have a look at the other parents and their offspring and consider whether or not you like the look of them/think they're much like you/are blingtastic and or famous - whatever your criteria for choosing a school.Every school has critics, and they're often not particularly well informed and often out of date. The important thing is that YOU like it, your child likes it and you think it will suit you and your family. It's baffling and overwhelming when you first start looking, but you do get a feeling for the type of school you feel comfortable with. Then all you need to do is hope that your child gets a place.
