I have been on UPS1 for 4 years now I have been to ask my head about moving up and she said it would need to be discussed and criteria met etc.

I wondered about other peoples experiences.

fizzbuzz just because you are lucky enough not to have had to produce evidence doesn't mean its not what most schools would expect - the majority of people have to prove they are worth the extra money. In my current role I am required to confirm whether or not various people in various roles in various schools have done what they claim to have done for me, for both ups 2 and 3 progression.

I'm UPS3 and only did the paperwork for UPS1. Heads sorted it out for me rest of the time.

mrz · 06/07/2008 19:58

I haven't done any additional paperwork since my threshold

iamdingdong · 06/07/2008 20:02

I think it varies from school to school - in a primary or small secondary where head is aware of who does what most of the time there will be less need for any 'application' process, but when there are 150+ teaching staff in a large secondary some sort of criteria has to be used, making it a pretty subjective and arguably unfair system!

janeite · 06/07/2008 20:05

I produced an evidence file for my threshold, as I was teaching in one school but using evidence from previous school. Since then, I've never been asked to produce evidence, until going for AST when you need masses of paperwork!

By the way, does anybody know a link to guidance on filling in a threshold application? I'm supposed to be helping a colleague do hers and it's years since I did mine.

No, it's not about luck. It's about what I understand the unions agreed. I work in a very big school, with very hawkish unions, and I am certain they said we didn't have to produce evidence.

If yoiu read union advice, it says "No Evidence required" see discussion here and here 216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:K75F59-LC8YJ:www.teachers.org.uk/resources/word/PROGRESS_ON_UPS_2006.d oc+nasuwt+upper+pay+scale+and+providing+evidence&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=16&gl=uk You can be asked to submit evidence, but you don't hve to, and it shouldn't count against you. In circumstances where people have moved schools 1/2 way through a cycle then it may be needed, but the unions were very keen to kick the "evidence" into touch. The evidence is the fact that you met your targets and produce work for classes on a day to day basis.

fizzbuzz · 06/07/2008 20:26

I also thought production of evidence was part of the reduction in workload thing that the unions were pushing a few years ago.

YOu definitely should move up automatically, providing your performance is okay, every two years untilyouend up with UPS3.After that there are other things to think about, like whetehr you wnat togo for AST.

How can a state school have got away with leaving you behind? Get advice from your union now.

Again many thanks for all the advice I will take this up seriously in september at my next PM meeting.

I have to admit it has really made me feel as if my experience isn't appreciated in school. In september I will be one of the most experienced members of staff especially in terms of my SEN experience

I now work part time and my head isn't that sympathetic to mums or part timers.

In fact my friend has just announced her pregnancy and said that when she went to tell our head she said to her 'is this what you really want'

I an currently due to move to UPS2.During a conversation with my head she stated that if you are on UPS2 all your lessons are expected to br graded as good! Is there any element of truth in this?
