Homeschooling advice

Hi,

I’ve decided to take my child out of school due to bullying and the school doing nothing about it. She goes into year 11 Come September. I’ve decided homeschooling is the best option but was just wanting to know what other parents do? I’ve already got an education plan set out for her but not sure what routine to give her. Do I do a full day of homeschooling? Any advice would be appreciated it. Thank you

I am sorry that your DD is struggling with bullying and the school is not responding. What sort of channels have you gone down? I ask bc HE at this stage of year 10 and into year 11 is going to be difficult.

Year 11 is a challenging year as it is GCSE year. I imagine you would need to employ tutors for at least some subjects, unless you yourself are a teacher and even then – I am a qualified teacher and while I would be fine with some subjects for sure, I would struggle to teach subjects like physics and biology. Then you will need to find an exam centre for her to sit the exams. I work with a lot of YP who are HE and it can be really successful but needs careful planning and usually quite a bit of ££ (exams sat privately can cost £200+ per GCSE).

There is an HE board on MN and HE groups on FB as well where I am sure you will find more advice.

@kg94 , one of my sons and his wife homeschool our grandchildren, I gather they have found the other local homeschooling parents a good source of support and knowledge. They found them initially I believe via Facebook so I would suggest you start by looking to see if there is a Facebook group for your area. Your daughter will hopefully find some friends too. Good luck, it’s quite the undertaking.

Does she plan on still taking her GCSEs? If yes you will need to be on the ball and start researching your local exam centres from September, each subject can be £200 starting, plus not all GCSEs can be taken as a private candidate / while home educated e.g any that have coursework, practical elements, teaching assessment. Home education can be as cheep as you want, lots of free resources available, it does not have to be be like school, or school hours

OP Mumsnet is not the best place for HE advice. It's heavily geared towards pushing school no matter what. Although there are some wonderful home edders on here.

Please join HEFA on Facebook for advice on how to best help your daughter. It's a very supportive and informative group Good luck!

There was some practical advice from posters above yours @Typperpine, not at all geared to pushing school. It’s reasonable to point out what needs to be put in place if the OP wants her daughter to continue with GCSE courses, as year 11 is the critical year and she needs to know what the options would be for completing the coursework and entering her for exams.
