Tell me about your course ]
I'm on Unit 2 of a 10 Unit course, so only just started

I'm coming to the end of the first bit (pg cert) but won't be handing anything in till after Summer. Then doing AMBDA till Dec. Are you doing teaching videos?

Whizzz · 21/06/2008 20:15

Yes Unit 5 - we have to be videoed doing a practical lesson

My trouble is though they changed it to a Level 4 course but it wasn't really made clear what that meant to those taking it.
I don't at the mo take any small groups (work in Secondary) & I haven't got years of experience behind me (2 years as a TA), so its all taking a while to sink in, but the pace of the course is fairly quick

Yes I've found it a lot more work than I thought. The teaching vids have to be spot on as well. Everyone at my school seems to think it's a piece of piss and they'll just pass anyone but it's not like that. Also SENCO is being a f*ing bitch with me about it - telling me I can use her room to film and then saying I can't at the last minute. Very stressed at the moment - worrying I'll fail it.

Whizzz · 21/06/2008 20:32

I find the terminology hard to get to grips with as you have to look at words in a whole different way (bit like being dyslexic?!).

Also because the course is Level 4, the 'personal tutor support' that we were promised seems not to be allowed, as we are expected to interpret the questions as part of the assessment.
Luckily my SENCO is quite supportive (although too busy to really chip in & help) - I just wanted a 'proper' qualification to help me hopefully get up the TA ladder

I've found that the more I've read, the easier it is to read more as the terminolgy becomes more familiar ( does that make sense?) I am actually really enjoying the course and find it so interesting. Just stressed with the current work I've got to do, as the final vid we do is on a pass/fail basis. I am really glad I'm doing it - well worth the extra work.

I've just read your post on the other thread
"'amateurs who've done a certificate over the internet.'"
Erm I won't tell you any more about my course then - guess who runs it

Thta's not what I think Whizzz! The woman who said that is the epitomy of a silly cow.Is it with dyslexia action then?

Whizzz · 22/06/2008 17:13

yes, but it was the one of the few courses where you get a properly recognised certificate/qualification. There was no chance of me doing anything full time anywhere so I couldn't find any other option. It's hellishly expensive though, I had to beg the school to pay for it

OP posts:

I paid for my own as I'm doing it off my own bat really. I don't get what the problem is with dyslexia action - our lecturer often refers to them positively. I think it's an excuse for schools not to cater for the chn they diagnose.

cornsilk · 22/06/2008 17:17

Also it's only those who know nothing about dyslexia who have a problem with them. Your qualification will be very well respected by people who know what they're talking about.

Whizzz · 22/06/2008 17:19

I've spent all afternoon creating a couple of practical resources - one for phonics & one for S&L. Phonics one worked well - I'm just about to rope in DS to try out th S&L one !

Oh god I've spent all day and yesterday preparing one lesson! (apart from when I've been on here that is.) I should really use my ds's as guinea pigs as well.

Whizzz · 22/06/2008 17:22

Luckily these are only short practicals - the whoppers come a bit later on inthe course. I'm having a breather now before I do any more writing. I still have a couple of questions to add detail to

Yes I'm having a breather on here!
