How did your children find Paper 1?

Soon, updated revision lists will be available based on topics that have not come up yet!

Let me know if you have any questions about the papers!

I haven't heard anything from DS yet. Maths should be his best subject, so I'm hoping it's gone well.

VillageFete · 15/05/2026 12:09

She found it quite easy (Maths isn’t her strong point, she’ll be very lucky & pleased with a 5- same as she achieved in her mocks)

Most of her peers said it was “Easy” too, so DD is worried that grade boundaries will now be higher and she’s panicking about not scraping a 4?!

Stowickthevast · 15/05/2026 16:14

You haven't specified a board so would imagine each answer will be different. Also obviously varies depending on what grades they're aiming for.

DD doing Edexcel found it reasonably good but knows she messed up 2 questions one of which was the histiogram. She's planning on doing A level and is worried about losing the 8 marks from the 2 she struggled with.

hirsuteonHRT · 15/05/2026 16:53

AQA was surprisingly easy my DC and schoolmates thought. Assuming the next paper will be tough to differentiate between candidates. I’m hoping that their teachers have just exaggerating how difficult it would be.

Batties · 15/05/2026 16:55

Dd did Edexcel and feels that she did well despite maths not being her strong subject.

That's great! Do they want to take Maths further?

Don't panic! Still two more papers for her to show off her ability. I've heard that it's easy many times and then the grades don't always reflect that. It's best to just go into each exam focused on doing the best she can :)

Yeah I didn't specify as I'm interested across the board. Ah okay, losing 8 marks across the 80 isn't a problem if that's all. 72/80 is still enough for a strong 8/9 depending on boundaries.
Most schools will accept a 7 for A level maths but of course, the higher her grade is, the better the transition to A level will be

My DC is sitting resit maths this year after missing a 4 last summer by 14 marks.
She came out yesterday saying it was ok, not too hard, and feeling confident. Hope the grade boundaries aren’t moved too much.
Half the stuff in the foundation papers now was Higher paper content when I did my GCSEs.

Yeah that must have been painful 😬glad she's feeling confident! I hope she takes the confidence into the next two. 1stclassmaths has great revision resources for paper 2 &3 based on what's already come up: www.1stclassmaths.com/keytopics

Yup! They purposefully did that as the government were afraid we were falling too behind other countries in terms of our mathematical ability. Passing is a lot harder now!

DS said it went well (maths is a strong subject, and with a fair wind he might get a 9, his teacher is confident most of the class can get a 9 though!) ....but hes said that about most of his exams.... and in the mocks, that didnt always equate to the result he was hoping for!

waitingforthehallmarkedman · 15/05/2026 19:23

DS said it went OK (AQA), he has a natural affinity with maths and is hoping to study it at A level plus further maths. Certainly doesn't get that from me 😂

Oh? Sorry I wasn't intending to... It's not my website and I was just sharing resources that are helpful to parents. I am not advertising. It is a popular maths website. It's like referring someone to moneysavingexpert for financial issues 😅

Edexcel's pass mark for a 9 was 217 last year.

My students do Eduqas and I've still not seen the paper yet. Foundation students said it went well, but I haven't heard from my higher tutees.

Edexcel's higher paper was easy, and I didn't think the histogram question was the hardest either. The only surprise I think, was having to prove for the alternate segment theorem!
