Thoughts on Atom Learning as an alternative to grammar school tutors

Hello

I'm hoping my son will get into grammar school, and we have been using atom learning for a couple of weeks. What do people think of this as an alternative to traditional tutors?

Also, if you are looking at using it i can share a refer a friend discount if you send me over your email address. :) think it says you get £30 off

So far it seems okay, and good to tailor to each child

I thought it was good resource but I don't think it's an alternative to tutoring. It's very expensive but I think should be used alongside in person support.

We didn't use formal tutoring and I do regret it to a degree.

That's what I'm worried about is not using a private tutor then if my son doesn't get in i will regret it.

We started with Atom and then got a tutor alongside, and the tutor themselves would use the Atom resources which worked well. For us, the tutor was worth their weight in gold, and I don't think she'd have passed the (super competitive) 11+ exam had it not been for them.

It depends on the school and the student.

All my son required was a month and a bit of Atom to get familiar with the question formats. Tutoring was not a financial option for us.

Agreed, we use a mix of in person and online. Atom is v expensive, we found something similar for around 1/3 the price. It meant we could do half the amount of in person sessions (needed when you have twins lol!) and still get the same quality of learning. Can share/pm the link if anyone wants

They have a free tier, we use the paid one as it is relatively cheap and gives full explanations and timed mock tests (I think the mocks are the biggest bonus)

we also use ace11plus, has been really good for us as an alternative to atom, hav also paid as you get unlimited mocks and weekly feedback on progress/struggles, which we pass onto our tutor. Kids enjoy it, would recommend

My experience was that atom tested and gave areas to work on but tutors actually taught and filled the gaps. So I used it to inform the tutor.

also only paid for it in the school holidays. So Christmas, Easter and summer hols.

We use Pip 11+ and have a tutor every other week. Pip keeps the kids engaged and learning, focused on mastering weak areas and the tutor is relly just so I have support to keep on track but so far so good
