Teachers, When do you usually get your timetable for next academic year?

Ours isn't usually available until early July, and it's a provisional one 😬😬😬

Usually the week before the end of term. Yes, provisional as it has to run the first full week of September to make sure it works.

HedyPrism · 13/05/2026 19:32

Last year, on INSET day in September...
Hopefully, a bit before that this year.
I'd be happy with the last week of term. It's not like I will do much with it anyway.
Why do you want it earlier?

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 13/05/2026 19:32

I work my absolute arse off to get the timetable done for early July.

They don't just appear out of the ether you know, someone has to construct it, along side all the other work they do.

Early July is a perfectly acceptable time to receive a draft and ask for changes.

And timetables are always provisional, because you know, people leave unexpectedly and also you get to September and realise certain things don't work.

I haven't even received the basic information I need to start mine yet so👀

Reallywhatsthat · 13/05/2026 19:37

Ha we can’t ask for changes, timetable may be available on the Friday before the last week of term but is still subject to change.
mine has changed 2-3 x after September in each of the past 3 years.

Childcare mostly apparently.
Staff complain every year
I just want to know what is normal.

Sorry I wrote the OP wrong. I'm adjacent to the timetable. I don't make it or anything. But have to listen to the "complaints" and wondering what is happening in other schools.

Usually end of June but has been July

Bobbybobbins · 13/05/2026 19:40

I usually confirm days before that though (part time) but as I’m secondary there is more flexibility than primary I would imagine

CharlotteCollinsneeLucas · 13/05/2026 19:44

Ten years ago, we got a provisional one in mid to late June, ironed out the issues staff raised and got a more final one before the end of term.

Of course, as PP have said, there are always unforeseen circumstances.

This year, we got it at the end of the first day of inset in September. And then only because we stayed behind to ask so they went and printed it off.

It'll be no better this year - we're still recruiting for September and our department's not fully staffed and no viable applicants yet Sad

We're a small independent school.

About 3 years ago, we had TT chaos.

One was produced, and department asked why their subject wasn't in there m..turns out they'd offered an unusual GCSE choice (like astronomy) to kids, but hadn't actually told anyone... They produced a list of 12 kids that had chosen it .... The kids did it at lunchtime and after school.
we had timetable for a member of staff that didn't turn up. Another new one left 3 days later... And a teacher quit during summer. That was a fun year! 🤦🤦🤦

Start of July. It was always a nightmare when the kids were tiny as I wasn’t able to confirm childcare & my two week timetable was sometimes different each week. I was often in over 4 days for 0.5.

UnaGatita · 13/05/2026 20:06

Last couple of weeks of term usually - keeps us on our toes. My favourite year was when a colleague left without notice in August. That caused a kerfuffle with the timetable!
