Reception school trips

Do most schools run trips in reception year and would they typically involve much walking? My daughter has an as yet undiagnosed condition causing hypotonia and poor coordination so she can’t walk far and still can’t manage stairs. She also randomly gets cramps in her legs. She is starting reception this year and I’m worried she won’t be able to participate in things like school trips and just wondering if schools would make accommodation for her needs. At home she still fits in a buggy which we use for family outings but we are trying to build up her stamina with advice from physio.

Our first school trip (to a zoo) is in June. My DD started reception in September. I would say don’t worry now as it’s a while off yet. Your daughter’s condition will be different by then, for the better hopefully
but in any case an judgement will need to be made at the time of the trip. The teachers will help with making any adjustments to ensure your child doesn’t miss out.

Trips must be inclusive, so the school should make arrangements. Our school trips often involve significant walking but we use taxis where children cannot manage this.

We had a child with a heart condition once with similar challenges. We asked her mum (any adult would do!) to come along on trips and she brought the buggy so she could rest whenever she needed.

Mine went to a soft play place to see Santa, they usually go somewhere in summer too like a zoo.
Accommodations will be made for your DD though, assuming she will need help day to day in school anyway so that provision would continue on trips. Also perhaps you could go with them as a parent volunteer (a girl in my DDs class has type 1 diabetes and her mum used to go along when they were very young)
