Everything was great for my DD until year 7. Rough start due to bullying as well as overwhelmed with transitions etc. Moved tutor groups after she started school refusal after Oct half term. Hasn't done a full day since. Goes in most days but for one or two lessons or sits in student support. Convinced everyone hates her. Can't see how this will get better. Am considering if changing school will help with a fresh start. DD just got an ASD diagnosis which was a bit of a surprise or at least it was never a conversation at primary school. Senco says if still no progress in another 6 weeks we can apply for EHCP needs assessment and I know realistically even if DD gets an EHCP it's months away and she is doing no school work at school or at home.
We talked about moving schools and would it be a fresh start away from the negative social experiences and DD suggested at beginning of year 8 but you can't guarantee space availability etc. not sure if it's better the devil you know.. or if we change and EBSA continues there, we are starting the clock again for getting evidence for support for an EHCP? Current school are actually being very supportive and understanding and have paid for EBSA outreach support and I know not all schools will do that. I can't homeschool. I can't imagine DD would meet criteria for SEN school apart from EBSA. So then what are the options? I just feel so overwhelmed with indecision and lack of pathways of information. Please can you share your experiences?

Request an EHCNA yourself now. You don’t have to wait. On their website, IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

In addition to this, request alternative provision. The La has a duty to ensure DD still receives a suitable full-time education.

Moving schools shouldn’t, in theory, delay an EHCP. However, some LAs unlawfully use a recent move as a reason to refuse saying DC need time to settle.

Personally, I wouldn’t move schools at this point. DD needs more support and moving without that in place could well set her up to fail with the associated trauma of a second placement breakdown.

There are options if MS isn’t suitable and there aren’t any suitable SS within travelling distance. For example, there is EOTAS/EOTIS.
