Hi,
My son will be starting at St Paul’s in September. Could anyone advise on the best and quickest way to travel there—by car, taxi, or tube?
Thanks

I'm assuming St Paul's is the name of a school somewhere and not just St Pauls tube station?
Have you googled the journey? You can filter for tube, bus, car etc. If you could provide the actual address he needs to get to- people might provide more advice.

Download Citymapper

St Paul's run bus services from both South Ken and Chelsea to the Junior school - School Bus Service - St Paul's School

What a bizarre question. The school website has travel information, and Citymapper and TFL will tell you the journey times from your exact location. We can’t really answer your question without knowing that.

The school bus won’t be the quickest option but it will probably be the most fun for your DS if he has classmates taking the same route.

District or Piccadilly Line to Hammersmith and then walk- easy. Surely it can’t be that hard for you to work out a route?

Thank you! I know the school offers a bus service—I was just hoping to hear other parents’ experiences with the commute. Thanks again!

Yeah – I can understand that. It’s not helped by the fact that Hammersmith bridge is effectively ruled out until you’re biking it in? An electric cargo bike would be the quickest but still about 25-30m. The other routes (depending on where you live) are going to be in the 30-45m range each way.

Personally, the school bus would be my preferred option. It’s the most ‘stress free’ (not battling through traffic or changing on public transport) and the kids will soon make friends, so it becomes fun time. I have heard some kids also use the time on the return journey to finish their homework – though getting my 7 year old to do that would be nigh on impossible!

7+ or 11+?
Lots of the year 7s scoot across the bridge and then go in through the back gate.

I used to drive from South Kensington to Hammersmith, and I think the traffic is usually fine if you take Cromwell Road. It would take me about 15 to 20 minutes to reach Hammersmith station by car.

It it’s going to be a nightmare trying to find a parking space to then get your 7 year old across the bridge- I’d go public transport/ school bus .

St Paul's has an area where you can drive inside the campus and drop off the kids, so I think parking shouldn't be too much of an issue.

AlexaAlexa2017 · 07/02/2026 18:21

Yes, but to do that you’ve got to get South of the River which is a nightmare without Hammersmith Bridge! It might not be too bad driving via Putney on the way but it’s a complete nightmare getting back. The previous poster was saying that driving from South Ken to Hammersmith was OK. They weren’t factoring in parking and getting over the bridge.
