Always distracted ..

My 9 year old son is so easily distracted, all of the time. It’s not becoming apparent at school too. He’s capable of his learning but he’s constantly playing catch up because he’s not getting it done quick enough!

He’s like this at home also, you can ask him to get dressed, then you go in 5 mins later and he’s playing Lego.

He's my first born, so I’m not sure if this is ‘normal’ or if there’s something else going on?

any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you.

If the teacher is telling you he is distracted at school then it is beyond the distraction level of an average child.

they’re not explicitly saying he’s distracted at school, but just that he’s very slow with his work as he likes to make sure it’s right.

My son is constantly distracted and now year 8. The only way to speed him up is to say I bet you can't do x, y and z faster than me otherwise it may never happen 😆.

He was very bored at primary school and often wandered around the classroom. But now he is at grammar school he has to stay on task to keep up.

Thank you!, my son absolutely loves school. He literally counts down from the last day in July till the first day they go back in Sept!

Hes just so slow!!

I wouldn't worry

it's amazing if he's trying to get things right. Mine is incredibly slap dash!

That sounds more like perfectionism or seeking reassurance. I would go back to them and ask them what exactly they think is happening.

he wants it to be perfect, and beats himself up when he’s made a mistake! (I wouldn’t say OCD - but you get what I mean)

at home, he’s always so distracted!! By literally anything.. even just this very minute, he’s spent 20 mins in the bathroom getting dressed and brushing his teeth. Came through to me in my room, and as he’s apologising to me for messing out with water in there (his hair was wet) he’s then looking at my husbands book on the nightstand and forgot what he was saying to me 🤦‍♀️😂
