How do I find out the curriculum?

Sorry if this is a silly question! We have two boys who are in reception and year 1, I’d really like to see the curriculum and find out exactly what they are learning so we can work on this at home too. They’re currently really motivated to learn so I want to build on this. How do I find the information?

Our school has the curriculum on their website for each key stage so it's worth looking there first as they break it down in a slightly easier way to find what you need. Otherwise the full curriculum is here (this is the one for England): assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/media/5a81a9abe5274a2e8ab55319/PRIMARY_national_curriculum.pdf

Ask their teachers? Many schools publish topics and learning plans for the term on their website or at parent/teacher meetings.

It’s on our class pages on the school website. If your school doesn’t publish it then you will have to ask for it.

It will depend on which phonics scheme they are following etc. Our mixed Reception/Y1 class has a rolling 2 year cycle for topics. So my DD did Victorians in Reception but the current Reception kids won’t do Victorians until Y1 so they don’t have to do it twice as they are in the same classroom for 2 years. It would be different in a multi form entry primary.

Ask the school if its not readily published on their website. Ours sent out a curriculum plan for the whole school, with year specific info at the beginning of each term.
