What’s the best way to choose a dog name that matches your pet’s personality and is easy for them to learn?

So I just brought home this goofy little rescue pup, and I swear he’s got more personality than half the people I know. The problem is… I cannot for the life of me pick a name that actually fits him. Everything I try either feels wrong or he just stares at me like I’m speaking taxes. I want something that really vibes with who he is but is also easy for him to catch onto. How do you all figure this out without losing your mind? Any tricks, stories, or name‑finding magic welcome!

Football team my husband supports, one is Saint- definitely not one haha. They both wouldn’t suit anything else now.

Photo required, obviously!

I just watch how my pup acts for a day or two, pick a short name with a sharp sound, then say it during treats or play. The one they perk up to usually sticks.

mine does the exact same thing—I used to think it meant something was off, but turns out cats can stop purring when they’re ultra relaxed or just shifting their focus. I found a neat article on caffeyolly.com/ that breaks down different reasons cats purr, and it helped me chill about it. There’s good stuff there if you like nerding out on pet behavior without getting buried in jargon.
