Hi. My 12 year old is being home schooled due to autism and adhd. She has a great passion for singing etc. Are there any fulltime performing arts schools in birmingham for her age please? Thankyou

Not at 12, but at 14 there is BOA Ormiston for Y10

She would need to do all the normal GCSEs and the strand is Performing Arts. For a singer the options would be either MT so not just singing, there will be dance and acting as well, or Music which means studying composition, production and theory alongside.

You need to think carefully about vocational training. It can be very hard for some being in a school where everyone is good at what you are good at, rather than perhaps being the standout in a non specialist school.

There is also general a smaller range of other subjects on offer.

The state performing arts schools are extremely competitive, so knowing she might be interested at 12 is good as she will have time to look at the audition requirements and get dance or music skiils up to standard in the next year or so.

Key Stage 4

Key Stage 4 education at BOA Academy, a 14–19 academy specialising in Creative, Digital and The Performing Arts.
