Anyone commuting from Twickenham to St Pauls Boys

Hi
I am keen to hear from any parents sending their kids from Twickenham / Strawberry hill / Fulwell area to St Pauls. There is a 33 bus which takes around 75 minutes. This is not viable in the long run. Do parents organise car sharing services for school drops ? Keen to hear thoughts

Train to Barnes mainline and then a bus?

dormsy · 24/10/2025 09:48

Or tube from Richmond to Hammersmith? Don’t drive, would be a complete nightmare.

Moonface2000 · 24/10/2025 10:04

@dormsy We are 8 min walk from fulwell station.

I don’t really know that area so can’t help I’m afraid but if it’s a nightmare journey I’d choose another school.

That quite the journey. Cycling seems the most time efficient way to do it.

Is this your only option and do you have an offer? Otherwise you should go for Hampton instead and your ds will have local friends. You need to factor in the travel for sport on a Saturday too. There is very little between the top schools in terms of GCSEs and a levels achieved.

He wants to join St Pauls. We are open to moving closer to school . Otherwise arrange a cab service once way and bus the other way. Lets see

Or team up with other parents who might be living in this neck of the woods

It will take him hours in the morning via a car, a tube from Richmond must be quicker. You should do a trial run in November. Also ring the registrar and ask how many people from your postcode go to the school.

dormsy · 24/10/2025 17:37

You could ask if there are any plans for a bus service - they have a couple of routes- but I don’t expect there are many living that way. If you could get him to Richmond or twickenham station that would be the best bet but I’d move nearer otherwise it’ll be a horrible journey and impact his school enjoyment.

I have seen St Paul’s boys at Strawberry Hill Station. Looks like route is Train to Barnes the bus to St Pauls. Looks like 48 mins on Google. Or when older can cycle

applepinkierainbow · 24/10/2025 20:35

Years ago my brother was a St Paul’s boy and commuted from Strawberry Hill to Barnes and then got the bus. He never moaned about the journey as there was a big group of them along the route - it was before mobiles were common and as it was the school he wanted to go to my parents let him get on with it. I am sure there are still a number of boys doing that journey but you could ring the admissions dept and ask.

Thats definteley an idea I can consider. Strawberry hill to Barnes and then the bus . Thats why I love this forum

Thanks @applepinkierainbow @Strawberryhilly @dormsy

@tennissquare Thanks for the tip to ask the registrar. Never struck me.

Train to Barnes is definitely the best bet and will be less subject to traffic compared to the 33.

Hi All! We currently live in W4 and DD goes to a local school 15/20 walking. We would love to buy a bigger house but it is proving difficult in this area - extremely expensive. We found a house that we love in Twickenham though, and we are trying to understand if we could get the house and still keep the same school. Our idea is to do drop off by car - average time 45 min (but really anything between 30min and 1h) - and get a nanny for pick up (1h by public transport).
Could this work or we need to give up on the house we like to keep the school?
