Your thoughts, advice on what we can do re. the fact that an online tuition company 'Oxbridge' has gone bankrupt.
We have received a letter online saying that we will be contacted by an Administrator.
As yet we have heard nothing!
DC has completed all of their coursework and is now completing their Assignments DC is left 'high and dry'.
DC was relying on the possible merits from their work to obtain the predicted grades to guide them towards University this academic year,
Can anyone let us know what you think we can do about this situation?

Is your child not at school then? Normally school provides predicted grades. Confused As for your money, I doubt you’ll get it back. There’ll be a firm of accountants trying to liquidise any assets to pay the creditors - and you’ll be low on list of priorities.

is this somewhere that has been doing online teaching of a BTEC?
Can you contact Pearson (or whoever) to see the status of things?
Can the existing coursework / assignments be passed over to a different provider?

Yes what is the qualification that your DC is working towards? If it is a nationally recognised qualification such as a Btec or T level it may well be possible to pass the work completed to another provider. Or if they were working towards A levels, again, they can still sit the exams. You need to find another tutor asap who can assess and give PGs.

Oh Dear, DD did an Level with them in a Gap year.
They were pretty useless and we had to get additional tutors, bit of a shit show.
I hope your child manages to get sorted

Financially, how did you pay? If you paid via credit card, look at section 75 protection. You will become a creditor, but it is unlikely there will be sufficient funds to credit all creditors what they are owed.

Have you found an exam centre yet? Easier for those subjects who don’t have NEAs/practical components. Harder for those with certain NEAs/practicals, but still possible, you will need to find a centre who works with certain providers for them. If any of the courses DD is doing are NCFE, I hear NCFE are being helpful.

This was on BBC South Today last night. The family involved had paid them £4000 for 3 A level courses.

As the company has only just gone into administration they will currently be trying to get information on who the creditors are (including you and all the tutors) and which assets the business has. They will be trying to restructure the finances or trying to sell it as a going concern. The problem is that the tutors would all have been freelance and unlikely to want to keep working if they themselves are owed money and there is no guarantee of future payments at their current rates.

I would suggest thst you pursue your credit card company whilst making other arrangements for your son's education.

I believe they are already trading under another company name. Calling themselves Barston College.

On Barston College’s website the information at the bottom of the page states “Home Learning Ltd (No. 9622558) trading as Barston College” However, that number is the number associated with Oxbridge Ltd.

I know lots of companies do this, but I don’t think companies should be allowed to just set up under another name.
