AI and secondary schools

My kids are in early primary and I’m still trying to figure out our options for secondary - state, grammar, independent. One thing I think more and more about is how secondary schools are dealing with the growing influence of AI, and still preparing kids to be independent thinkers etc. It’s early days but has anyone seen schools proactively adjusting their curricula / teaching approach and getting it right? Where and how?

The entirety of academia and education has already rejected AI as being categorically evil. So they're still in the denial stage, really.

I think it's a bit of a case of keeping an eye on this one as it develops.

Honestly, it's the least of the things to be worried about in secondary schools. Ultimately they will do whatever DfE (of state schools) tells them to do

Not seen any major moves yet by schools although some universities are starting to adapt and adopt. As a new technology AI is moving at a fast pace and that’s why we see the typical lag across regulation, school curricula (and the new skills requirements that will be required for teachers and corporate professionals).

I expect it will take a few years before cascading into school syllabuses, but that shouldn’t stop you nurturing some of the core skills and being proactive i.e. teaching them to be curious, creative and think critically through questioning etc. Discuss the benefits and constraints of using AI and when it is useful versus being biased or unnecessary.

As they get older there are lots of very good online courses and the option to study STEM down track, although some leading AI employers also value the arts for creativity and innovation. Kids just have a knack of absorbing everything so don’t push too hard early on, it will come naturally.

In denial? Universities consider it serious misconduct if a student gets a system of artificial stupidity to do the work for them. And rightly so.

Do you want your surgeon to say: I don't remember where the bone I need to operate is, I need to ask ChatGPT?
