Would we stand a chance of getting into our local RC school

Being that I am a muslim?
My DH is of a muslim background but is not at all religious.
I have taught at a RC school a few years ago so I know what to expect and would be really happy to send my child to this absolutely lovely school.
I met a parent from the school recently (of no faith) who told me to try seeing the Head in person to discuss rather than just filling out an application form.

Is this a good idea or would it look odd?

thankyou

Depends on how popular the school is with Catholics. My dcs school is 70ish% Catholic so there is room for non Catholics. Non of the years are full so anyone who applied would be given a place. Some Catholic schools don't have enough room for Catholic applicants so non Catholics would have no chance.

I don't think it would look especially odd to ask to see the head. Just ask for a tour of the school as you are thinking about applying. It won't actually help you secure a place as they will go by their admission criteria but the head will have some idea of the liklyhood of you being able to get a place.

Try not to laugh, but the catholic convent school I went to in the 70's did take muslim girls... their fathers preferred it as it was the only school without boys for them to mix with!

Our school at that time was not over subscribed though.

If a school is oversubscribed then preference is given to practising catholics so its unlikely you'd get in. Some Catholic schools near me now have 3 applicants for every place.

I sat next to a lovely muslim girl for maths, I learned sooo much about their culture, and have never had that opportunity since to be such good friends with a muslim lady. I think its a good idea for all faiths to be mixed in the schools.

thankyou both
Flibberty that is funny about the fathers!
I don't think this is an oversubscribed school but Im not sure either.
Having said that there were an awful lot of babies born here around the same time as my DS so it might be a popular year...

Worth a try, headteacher will only know what has happened in previous years, at our school a few years back catholic children were not getting a place but next years reception 20 places out of sixty are going to non-catholic families. (with ours it may have been due to a change in headteacher)

Muslim children would probably be more at home in a catholic school than a person of no faith would.
