QE 11+ 2026 entry

My DS just completed his QE exam and thinks it went horribly wrong. Any parents know how many marks can be dropped on average and still get in?

I know it’s a difficult to answer question but I’m just trying to understand how the standardised score works.

Just to add, the school invites boys achieving above a certain score to go on a school tour. The idea is to limit the tours only to those who have at least an outside chance of getting in.

This score used to be 220 but has crept up - last year it was 230 and this year it is apparently 233. On that basis it’s likely that the score needed actually to attain a place will go up too.

Last year the lowest score to get a place on continuing interest was 235 (and not all those scoring 235 got an offer). So that may well rise a couple of points, but it’s all speculation!

Hi
All the boys tried their best.
My son got 124/123 which makes a total of 247.

Here is our story 😀
My son unfortunately missed by quite a margin. He was fully self-taught and relied only on the Atom app. The challenge is that he had high hopes; he consistently scored close to 100% on Atom, which showed him as having mastered all the concepts and performing above the QEB cohort from previous years who went on to succeed.

I’m left wondering what went wrong, as his actual results were nowhere near what Atom had been indicating.

I wanted to share this feedback for future aspirants: it’s risky to rely solely on the Atom app. While it can be a useful tool, it doesn’t seem to fully prepare students for the actual exam.

My son is naturally a bit dejected, but I see this as a valuable learning experience for him. He’s a bright child, and I’m confident he will bounce back and do well in the future.

all the best for those who got through and those who didn’t also . Life is a long journey. Experiences like this will shape them for a better future 😊

Hi,

My son got 243, will he attain place in QE?

IQA · 30/09/2025 17:21

Well Done to all the boys who sat the exam. Congratulations to those who will be considered for a place. My son just missed it by a few numbers but then he was self taught and only prepared for two months. I am proud of him!

We got 180! My son is pretty academic and got 140 in his GL/cats. I wonder why there is such a disparity??

Hi,

Above 240 is a safe score I believe

SuperStarM · 30/09/2025 23:15

My son scored 236, may 2015 born and living 9.7 miles away. Do you think he will get it in QE?

Travelmad777 · 01/10/2025 08:12

If you go to the QE website and look at the admissions booklet it has historic data for what score is needed for an offer.

Amandahon · 01/10/2025 08:47

According to last year experience, my friend’s son got 233. School tour was invited to 230 above. He didn’t get a place and was under waiting list.

This year school tour is invited to 233 above. Seems like the marks are going up this year.

So I think 236 is a very competitive score.

Congratulations to all the children who prepared and got through!

For the benefit of future students (and their mums and dads 😊), could those of you whose kids succeeded please share a bit about your preparation journey? For example:

  • Did you use a coaching centre? If so, which one?
  • Roughly how many hours of study did your child do each day/week?
  • What study materials worked best for you?
  • How many mock tests did your child take, and from where?

Your experiences will be such a big help to parents and children preparing in the coming years. 💙
