My DD failed her GCSE miserably

Hi all,

My DD didn't get a single pass in her GCSE exams. She got all 3s which caught us off guard and now we're not sure which way to turn. She's not academic but she got 5 when doing past papers in maths, English and science. She's had private tuition for all 3 subjects for the past year and a half. Her school does not allow resits.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

FYI 3s are not fails. And to describe her marks as miserable is quite cruel.

My understanding is that a Pass is a 4?

Happy to be wrong.

A 4+ is a level 2 pass.
A 1-3 is a level 1 pass, so a qualification, but not at a level to help get onto a level 3 course.

You can be incredibly "bright" as in thinking outside the box, looking at things from a different angle; but you may be be appalling at taking timed exams - why would you not know this?

Poor love. I have no useful practical advice, but give her a squeeze from me and remind her that life is long and she has time to fix this, and she's more than the sum of her exam results. If this were mine she'd be in bits xxxxx

To have qualified as an accountant you would have needed some serious qualifications. At least a first degree or similar.

Thats not true. You do not need a degree.

Having a degree can be a faster route yes but you can go in at entry level and work up.

You have to take exams but these can be done at college, online or through an employer training program.

My son only got maths and had already decided to go to local vocational college to get Fitness Instructor and PT qualification. He retook Math there and got a 4. There were people training to be chefs, hair stylists, nursery care workers, carpentry ñ, boat building… you name it.

I said a degree or similar. Whatever you call the qualifications you need to do, they will either be degree level or something similar.

Accountancy is one of the professions where it has long been possible to qualify without a degree. It is very accessible and now has a pretty accessible apprenticeship route through AAT from L2 ( gcse) to L4 (HNC) then onto qualification n through ACCA etc. Everyone has to ' work their way up' to a degree.

Is something going on in her life so that she is not taking her studies seriously? I would be pretty upset paying for tutoring with these results
