Hi I have inherited a house in Wales , I have 5 kids and we rent in England so obviously it's a bit of a no brainer to move back to my childhood house in Wales but I have a child with an echp and another child whose having speech and language therapy so how does it work with those as I know now Wales is aln so would the ehcp still stand ?

With regard to who to contact at your current local authority, contact the SENAT team who will be able to put you in touch with the SEND and Inclusion team. Also contact the SENCO at your children's current school as they will be able to assist you.

Oh about seven miles from where I am from originally - Sirhowy Valley.

So Health Board is https://abuhb.nhs.wales

And council is https://www.caerphilly.gov.uk

Hi thank you for that , sirhowy is that Abergavenny? Moving back would be to my childhood home however it's been a very long time since I have lived in Wales and I know things are different so I'm trying to get all the info about schools possible, my oldest goes to a grammar school up here he's done his GCSEs so he would just go to a sixth form in Wales As that's what he'd want to do if we stayed here . As awful as this sounds I'm not so worried about him it's my sen/ aln children i worry about as obviously I want them well supported x

There is a village called Sirhowy, but the valley itself is called Sirhowy. I’m from near Blackwood (Cefn Coed). Not far from Abergavenny, although Abergavenny is in Monmouthshire. I think the more prep you can do the better position you will be in and it’s great that you are doing this early on and thinking about all of the ramifications.

AHH I know blackwood, yes it's because I want my kids supported and obviously I don't want to move there and then have to fight for everything to be put in place.x

You’re going about it all the right way - I wish you so much luck. X

Don't go in with the "need a fight" mentality. Your child has an EHCP, their needs are known and identified and the new LA won't just disregard that. But you can't move to a different LA, a different country and expect things to fall into place overnight. Give the relevant services chance to do what needs to be done and ensure you keep your current LA informed so they can send everything over to the new one.

No I know it's not going to happen overnight but from what I've been told from someone who already lives in Wales she's had to really advocate and fight for her child to get any support for example she had to keep on at the school to put in referrals I'm only going on what I've been told so want to be prepared.

Thank you it's the school holidays now so I doubt I could contact any potential schools in Wales to ask but that's my plan as soon as kids go back .

If DS is due to start sixth form in September, are you planning to move before the start of term? It isn’t a good idea to move mid course.

They may not offer the same course(s), boards, options within a syllabus. Where they do, they may not have space on the course(s) or it may not fit into the timetable. Even when they have space and everything is the same, things may be taught in a different order.
