Secondary recommendations for DD in Hackney

Hi, looking for a calm, nurturing, averagely academic either state or private secondary within easy reach of Hackney for a bright ND girl with some sensory issues, no LD, performing mostly at expected, but can focus better in a quiet classroom with a smaller class and no behaviour issues. Has EHCP. Can stretch to private, but do not want to push/tutor for 11+ as affraid to increase pressure/anxiety.

Any recommendations, please.

You could try looking at smaller community-focused schools or ones known for good SEN support rather than just top exam results. Sometimes the “less shouty” schools end up being the best fit.

The new Alleyns North in Hampstead could be an option - it's walkable from Hampstead Heath Overground. Queens College is supposed to be nurturing but transport isn't easy.

Parliament Hill has good pastoral care if you could get it named on the EHCP.

I would look around at all the of state schools during the September/October open days and mornings. If you look on the Hackney Education website you can see when they are all happening an plan which ones you want to see. You can speak to the SENCO at these open days and get a feel for what they say.

I have a daughter at Clapton Girls,180 per year in take which I think is standard for the Hackney state secondaries, but they do make some of the subject classes slightly smaller. We have found the school very motivating and nurturing plus aware/attentive to SEN needs. Happy for you to DM me if you want more details. I have friends with children at other schools and thinking specifically about the ones with more ND children they say they are doing well at COLA Shoreditch and Mossbourne. Obviously these are big schools and other children / families will have had different experiences, but anecdotally these seem to be working out well.

Private - have you looked at North Bridge Cannonbury? Based on what you've said in the OP that would be my first call for small classes, private, not too academically selective, able to help with SEN.

Thank you all for responding.
Definitely not looking for a "shouty" school for my quiet child.
Alleyns North is in the same stable as North Bridge Canonbury, so might as well go and see the Canonbury one. Are there any major differences I am not aware of? Apart of the licence to use the Alleyns name.
Clapton Girls seems like the Hackney equivallent of Parliament Hill and closer to us too. Will definitely go and see.
