Following up on this thread—I need help navigating a difficult situation with my son. He struggled in his final year and failed three modules: one in Spring and two in Autumn. He didn't apply for extenuating circumstances, thinking he lacked a valid medical reason. We only learned of the issues in late June when he admitted he'd likely only qualify for a Diploma unless he passed a Spring resit (he scored 30%). He blamed himself for not being good enough.

Concerned, we had him urgently assessed in early July and he was diagnosed with a long-standing medical condition that had clearly affected his performance all year.
Last week, we requested permission to lodge a Late Appeal for the failed Autumn modules, based on his new diagnosis as he couldn’t have applied for ECs at the time. We’re awaiting the outcome.

Surprisingly, he received a Degree (Pass) yesterday, with the university citing a “technicality” but offering no details. He passed all second-year modules and his dissertation, so he’s not a weak student—just significantly impacted by the condition this year.

To gain an accredited degree, he still needs to resit the two Autumn modules (both below 30%).

Any idea what the university might be trying to do here? This is all very stressful.

No one here is going to know the answer to your question. It’s best to ask the department directly.

It sounds very positive. I hope the re-sits go well.
How did your ds take the good news?
