When my son was ten he fell over some equipment in the school playground that’s was left out and broke his front two adult teeth. We had them filled and they were fine. However he is 14 now and the fillings have came of, we have been to see a private dentist and the cost to repair is going to be substantial. I am considering going back to the school to speak to them about recuperating the costs from them through their insurance. Can I get some opinions please. We really don’t want to do it but the cost now and in the future is substantial.

What about taking some free legal advice? Some solicitors do a free half an hour. Just to see if there's any time limits on claiming, what you should ask for, what proof you need etc. That way you know where you stand if they aren't helpful.

Were the school negligent?
Or was your DS being 10 and it was an accident / bad luck / him not oaying good attention.

I don't feel comfortable with the idea of claiming against state schools unless they are clearly at major fault.

Can you not see an NHS dentist as he is still a child?

Yes we did see an nhs dentist but were advised to see this one because they specialise in this type of damage. And the original repair was really badly done and don’t last.
I agree completely I really don’t like the idea of doing it hence why I am asking for advice, but is this not what insurance is for. He didn’t just trip they were taken on a run through a yard that had a lot of equipment lying in it.

Were the teeth adult teeth? Assume so, but checking.
Did you pay for school insurance? My trio came home annually with a shitty plan for cheap but it covered some stuff.
Otherwise I’d look at different dentists and all the options, sounds like caps most likely?
Legal fees might not make up for the amount the school/council might pay out back dated 2yrs ago.

It depends on whether the equipment was left out negligently, whether he could have expected it wouldn’t have been there and if he wasn’t looking where he was going, when he fell over it.
