AI letters school related

Any other teachers sick and tired of receiving AI generated emails from parents? It’s all the rage at the moment, nearly every email is so obviously written by AI. I just plonk them into AI and send an AI generated response back. It’s all so superficial and box-ticking. So impersonal and fake. Don’t get me wrong I love AI, it’s absolutely brilliant, but this like a game of tennis. Do some parents think we don’t know?

Curious as to why it matters though - if the point is made?

They take forever to read through. Time taken away from children.

We have introduced wording in complaints policies about AI generated or aided complaint. Basically, it's ok as long as it's helping you to express your point, but when you send in long lists of regulations the school is in breach of and saying that we have breached EU law and the 1941 War in Education Act because your child lost a blazer and that you require a full written response within 48 hours, it will not persuade us and you are taking up teacher's time to no purpose.

We will ask people to resubmit on the basis that if AI obscures what they are complaining about in the first place, we aren't going to be able to help.

Not so much parents but school related I’ve been going through applications for a TA role. Blatant use of AI making it impossible to judge.

@MrsSmiff I defend admissions appeals for our school. Normally the parent submits their case, then I submit mine. Sometimes, in response to my statement, a parent might submit further evidence before the hearing date. However, this year, two parents had very obviously uploaded my statement to an AI app and asked it to write a response. It didn't help them win their case though. 🙂

I've had AI written letters from my DD's school. Ironically praising her effort in achieving 100% attendance. Apparently it's a "true reflection of your resilience and dedication to your education" and "serves as an inspiring example to your peers". Do some teachers think we don't know?

I guess it's a time saver on both sides when writing and possibly the parents think that AI can make a more professional sounding argument. I understand that it's annoying to wade through all the excess waffle.
